Tribune-Review – Quantum Theatre returns to the Carrie Furnace in Rankin to kick off its 2023-24 season with a spin on the tragedy “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday. That performance is sold out, but tickets are still available for 7:30 p.m. shows on Saturday and Sunday.
The story begins when the king of Denmark, Prince Hamlet’s father, suddenly dies. Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, marries his uncle Claudius, who becomes the new king. A spirit who claims to be the ghost of Hamlet’s father describes his murder at the hands of Claudius and demands that Hamlet avenge the killing.
This take on the tale is done in an edgy way and features doubt, revenge, death and, of course, madness with a rock n’ roll soundtrack. The show is directed by Jeffery Carpenter. Treasure Treasure, a Pittsburgh-based artist performing in multiple disciplines, leads the cast as the Prince of Denmark.
It’s a two-hour show with a 15-minute intermission.
